Nasdaq has notified Spanish Broadcasting System that the company must get its stock back to above $1 for at least 10 business days by February 17th, 2009 or the company will be delisted from the exchange. SBS’ stock has been below $1 for 30 consecutive business days.

A new report by the Pew Hispanic Center shows that Hispanics account for one in five of all public school students in the nation, or 10 million Hispanic students. This number has almost doubled between 1990 and 2006.

Live Nation has inked a deal with CIE in Latin America to book world tours in CIE venues in Mexico, Brazil and other major markets. CIE will pay Live Nation a percentage of revenue from these shows.

MTV Tr3s has partnered with the Latino Comedy Project to create its new “We Get You” image campaign. The campaign takes a humorous twist on themes like family, religion, dating, passion, food, music and language.

Cuban Taekwondo athlete Angel Matos and his manager, Leudis Gonzalez, were banned for life from all World Taekwondo Federation championships and Matos’ Beijing Olympic Games records were erased after Matos kicked a referee in the face when he was disqualified from his bronze medal match.

Immigration officials carried out the largest single-workplace immigration raid in U.S. history this week at the Howard Industries transformer plant in Laurel, Mississippi. Around 600 workers were detained during the raid.

Luis Mandoki’s “Fraude Mexico 2006” will be distributed by Maya Films and opens in Los Angeles, Denver and Phoenix on October 10th. The film tells the story of the contraversy surrounding the 2006 Mexican presidential elections between Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Felipe Calderon.

According to reports, Oscar Andres Rodriguez, the Catholic church’s Cardinal of Honduras, criticized Ricky Martin’s twin babies born to a surrogate mother on a recent visit to Chile, stating that what Martin did “diminishes the dignity of a human being,” and “you can’t just buy or rent a life”.
Mun2 inaugurated its “Most Valuable PPL” award with Xianelly Guzman, a 17 year-old high school student from Delaware as the first recipient. The award will be given every month to outstanding people in the mun2 generation.

Telemundo will now house all of its digital properties, including Yahoo! Telemundo, holamun2.com, International Digital Media and Telemundo Emerging Platforms, under the newly created Digital Media and Emerging Business Division. The new department will be headed by Peter Blacker, EVP of Digital Media and Emerging Businesses.
Three decapitated bodies were found in the outskirts of Tijuana earlier this week. There were messages written on the bodies stating that they worked for “the weakened engineer”, referring to Francisco Sanchez Arrellano, a high-ranking member of the Arellano Felix cartel.
Alex Fernandez, Rudy Jaramillo and Jesus Alou will be inaugurated into the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame.
